In today's competitive job market, your ability to navigate the interview process makes all the difference and sets you apart from the crowd. We've been securing interviews for candidates for over 35 years - here are our top tips...
Before you attend your interview, spend some time preparing answers to common interview questions. Some interviews will include competency-based questions asking you to recall and discuss certain situations - don’t let them catch you out! Anticipate their questions and practise your answers using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action and Result). Not only will this be sure to impress your interviewer, but you’ll feel much more confident knowing you’re well prepared!
Did you know that 47% of interviewers would reject a candidate who lacks knowledge about the company? Re-read the job description to pinpoint the duties, key skills and requirements the interviewer will be looking out for and be prepared to tailor your answers to these. Make sure to check out the company website and reviews before you go to your interview.
Don’t give yourself added stress! There’s nothing worse than turning up flustered, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to prepare - dress smartly, plan your schedule and route so you don’t arrive late and ensure you bring along everything you need.
Remember that body language can be just as important as what you say, so walk in with a positive mindset, look confident, sit tall and stay in control.
Demonstrate your enthusiasm by coming prepared with one or two of your own questions - not only is this an opportunity for the interviewer to learn more about you, it’s also for you to find out more about the role, team and company.
By keeping these top tips in mind, we’re sure that you’ll be ready to handle any question and showcase your strengths - now go forth with confidence and secure your next interview!
